West Columbus's Westgate Park will be holding a pair of events next month.
A Step in the Right Direction will be hosting its 6th Annual Westside Community Summer Bash, a free community festival with music, games, and kids' activities. Local non-profit organizations will be distributing information about their missions, location, programs, and hours of operations.
The Westside Community Bash will be from noon to 3:00 pm on Saturday, June 6. The Presenting and Community sponsors will need to get their logos to the event organizers as soon as possible before any event signage or banner printing gets underway.
A few weeks later, the Grove City Rotary Club will be holding its traditional Bean Dinner. Along with the dinner, guests will be treated to music, a classic car show, local vendors, a Civil War display, and tours through the Camp Chase Cemetery. There will be activities for families and kids, and friendly contests. Proceeds will go to West High School and Jordan's Crossing.
The dinner is not just a fun community affair but also a tribute to the past, as the park was known at one time as Camp Chase, a Civil War training ground and a Confederate prison. Bean dinners have long been a sign of unity among war veterans.
The Bean Dinner at Westgate Park will take place on Saturday, June 27 from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm.
Westgate Park is located at 456 South Westgate Avenue, Columbus.
