With spring in the air, West Columbus outdoor enthusiasts will be heading to the Greater Columbus Cherry Blossom Festival coming in late March and early April.
Inspired by Washington DC's National Cherry Blossom Festival, Japan gifted 20 cherry trees to the 2012 Columbus Bicentennial Celebration and the International Voluntary Organizations, and the Columbus Recreation and Parks Department added 82 more. The result was an amazing display of pink blossoms that became celebrated with the Greater Columbus Cherry Blossom Festival.
With the 2025 theme "Love, Peace, and Harmony" the event will showcase the more than 100 cherry trees in Franklin Park. Cultural performances may include Koto music, Soran Bushi (Japanese work songs), Awaodori (traditional Japanese dance), Okinawan drum dance, and Taiko drumming.
Exhibits may include calligraphy, origami, bonsai display, and flower arranging (ikebana), and displays such as kitemaking, anime exhibits, dolls, and other Japanese toys. Activities may include poetry readings, tea ceremonies, arts and crafts, and cooking demonstrations.
The Greater Columbus Cherry Blossom Festival's trees and some of the events will be occurring from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm from March 24 to April 15 in Franklin Park, 1755 E Broad Street, Columbus. Other activities and events will be at other locations around Columbus. Admission will be free.
Stationery printers often use cherry blossom themes from events such as this for their spring greeting cards.
