A Grande Winter Ball, hosted by 1st Ohio Light Artillery Battery A, a Civil War re-enactment group, will take place in West Columbus toward the end of January.
Since this will be a formal occasion, guests are to wear ball attire resembling that worn by ball attendees back in the 1860s. That would be ball gowns and white gloves for the ladies and frock coats and polished uniforms for the men. Guests are advised to wear shoes with slip-proof soles as the marble ballroom floor (standard for the era) tends to get a little slick.
Dance selections will include waltzes, reels, Lancers Quadrilles, Galops, and polkas, accompanied by tunes dating back to the Civil War.
Stationery printers often use pictures of period dancing like this on their note card sets and Stationery.
General admission tickets will be priced at $15 for individuals, $25 per couple and may be purchased on the Grande Winter Ball website. Attendees may either show their email receipts or printed tickets at the door. Guests may also opt to attend purely as spectators.
For those needing a little brush up or have not yet learned dances of this period, a public dance class for teaching reels and waltzing will be held on the afternoon of the ball at 3:00pm in the Ohio Statehouse Atrium.
The Grande Winter Ball will be held from 7:00pm to 9:00pm, January 27th, at 1 Capitol Square, in the Columbus Ohio Statehouse.Get a Free Quote for Stationery
