Magician to retell story from more than 150 years ago

Grandview Heights locals looking for some entertainment with an educational slant might want to attend a performance given by local Rory Rennick ‘The Magistic’.

In honor of Black History Month, Rennick will be offering a unique, family friendly, retelling of the story of Henry "Box" Brown, who found his way out of slavery in the South in 1849 by Mailing himself to Philadelphia in a crate.

Rennick is, by trade, a magician, but he is also a storyteller, actor, and comedian. In recounting the story of Brown, he will parlay all of his various talents into a performance that will give audience members a small taste of what it must have been like to travel by mail inside of crate, not knowing whether he would be discovered or whether he would achieve his goal of finding his family. The show is intended for people of all ages.

Those who plan to attend the show may want to have flyer printing done to help advertise and promote the event, and no doubt printed material will be available to highlight Black History Month.

The performance will be given Thursday, February 18, from 7:00 to 8:00 pm at Grandview Heights Public, 1685 W 1st Ave, Grandview Heights. Admittance will be free. Audience members are encouraged to read about Henry Brown before the show.
