Library to present an evening of fingerstyle acoustic guitar

The local library will be presenting an evening of guitar music as part of its 26 annual Music in the Atrium series. The guitarist will be Jim Volk who is a master acoustic guitarist excelling in fingerstyle.

For over 30 years, Volk has been performing his unique combination of traditional fingerstyle while infusing electric guitar devises and techniques. This allows him to present what he refers to as ‘Modern Acoustic’, yet he is able to keep the old-style spirit intact. During his performance, he will play a 10-minute medley in which audiences will hear guitar melodies and styles from 16th century to the 70s, including refrains that resemble the likes of Chet Akins and Django.

His latest CD is “Past Atmospheres-Present States” which was released in 2014. For some idea of what he will offer, some who are thinking of attending his concert may want to check out a couple of his instrumentals on his website.

This will be the second of three musical events that the library will be offering, and in May it will feature the area’s own local talent, Dean Marcellana Duo, offering a jazz and Latin fusion.

Those interested in the Jim Volk concert will want to mark their Calendars for April 14. The event will take place at 7:00 pm in the Library Atrium at the Grandview Heights Public Library, 1685 West First Avenue, Columbus.
