West Columbus jazz fans may enjoy Jazz Arts Group of Columbus's presentation of "And All that Jazz" coming in early March.
Under the baton of Byron Striping, the Columbus Jazz Orchestra will present a musical journey exploring jazz evolution, from Scott Joplins's ragtime to Duke Ellington's sophisticated orchestra and Benny Goodman's swinging rhythms. World-renowned clarinetist Ken Peplowski and up-and-coming vocalist Sydney McSweeney will be guest soloists.
Performances will be Thursday, March 7 beginning at 7:30 pm; Friday March 8 and Saturday, March 9 at 8:00 pm, and Sunday, March 10 beginning at 3:00 pm. The Youth Jazz orchestra will take the stage at 2:00 pm.
The orchestra's next performance of the series will be in mid-April when it will perform pop hits and smooth jazz of the 1970s with a program titled "Rhythm & Grooves." Trumpeter Bruce Wermuth and saxophonist Nelson Rangell will be the solo artists. This will be the closing concert of the orchestra's 51st season.
Rhythm & Grooves will take place April 18 through 21 at 7:30 pm on the first day, 8:00 pm on the second and third, and 3:00 pm on the final day.
And All That Jazz and Rhythm & Grooves will take place at the Southern Theater, 21 E. Main Street, Columbus. Single tickets for this series range from $17.33 to $85.58.
At the end of series like this, the presenting organization usually begins its brochure printing for the coming season.
