Many of those in West Columbus who enjoy learning about Greek culture and eating traditional Mediterranean food will be heading to the Columbus Greek Festival taking place in late August and early September.
Hosted by the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral, the four-day event will have plenty of authentic Greek food such as gyros, pastitsio (baked pasta), moussaka (baked eggplant), souvlaki (marinaded chicken), baklava, and loukoumis (donuts with walnuts and honey).
Bouzouki music will accompany Greek Festival Folk Dancers who will be arrayed in traditional garb. The Hellenic Singers will be performing island and mainland folk songs from Greece.
Shops and exhibits will be selling Greek art, clothing, jewelry, handmade and hand painted ceramics, olive wood carvings, and imported Greek goods.
The Cultural Center will be featuring an interactive timeline depicting Greek history, and OSU Modern Greek Studies professors will be giving lectures on Greek life, culture, history, and poetry.
Guests are invited to view the eye-catching architecture and mosaics by taking tours of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral. Stationery printers often take pictures of Greek architecture to use in their European notecard sets.
Adult admission will be $5, senior citizens can enter for $4, and military personnel and kids under 12 will get for free.
