Two festivals are being planned – one virtual (Central Ohio folk Festival 2021) and the other in-person (Columbus Caribbean Festival).
Columbus Folk Music Society’s Central Ohio Folk Festival 2021 is going online this year. The all-day event will offer interactive music workshops (ukulele, dulcimer, guitar and old-time fiddle), many performances (old-time, bluegrass, and folk music), and interactive kid’s performances.Headliner will be duo Larry Campbell and Teresa Williams.
The folk festival will be May 22, from 11:00 am until 9:00 pm, and $15 and $25 tickets will come with links.
The Wrights Way Foundation’s Carnival Experience is a four-week course ending with participation in this year’s Columbus Caribbean Festival coming in September.
The course will be an immersion into the Caribbean culture. It will include learning traditional dances, preparing Caribbean cuisine, and learning about Caribbean culture.
Attendees agree to perform a concert, teach carnival guests traditional dances, purchase or create their Caribbean carnival costume and wear it during the festival. Auditions for Carnival Experience Dancers will be held to determine which applicants may enter the program.
Applicants must agree that photos taken during the program can go to local Print shops and become part of the organization’s future marketing and promotional advertising.
The program will begin June 5, at the Channingway Center 6100 Channingway Blvd. Columbus. The deadline for applications is May 25, and the program is available to all ages from 14 to adults.
