Grandview Heights travels to tomato festival

Grandview Heights is invited to the 45th Reynoldsburg Tomato Festival coming in a couple of weeks. The two-day festival is commemorating the fact that Reynoldsburg prides itself as “the birthplace of the commercial tomato.”

Tomato displays, contests, and concessions will be the focus of the event. Anyone who grows one of the tangy fruits here in Ohio may enter the Tomato Contest. Categories will be include largest tomato, smallest tomato, tallest tomato vine, best group of Heirloom tomatoes, best group of tomatoes of any variety), and most oddly formed tomato. The largest tomato will be crowned Grand Champion, and its owner will receive a cash prize.

The Queen & Her Court contest will be for those girls who are in 11th or 12th grade and live within Reynoldsburg City School District. Girls entering second grade in the district may enter the Little Princess contest. The Senior King and Queen will be a couple, each aged 65 or over, who have lived in town for at least 10 years and have made a significant contribution to Reynoldsburg. Contests winners’ families will be taking photos for family Calendars and possibly for future poster printing.

There will also be arts and crafts exhibits, children’s activities, bingo, and musical entertainment provided by McGuffey Lane.

The festival will be August 18 from 4:00 pm until 10:00 pm, and August 19 from 10:00 am until 10:00 pm at Huber Park, 1520 Davidson Drive, Reynoldsburg.
