Ohio State University Argentine Tango Club, near the Grandview Heights area, will be hosting its 1st Ever Columbus Argentine Tango Festival in early April.
The festivities will begin on Friday, April 3 when Alejandro Pinzon will present a tango workshop and history lesson from 6:45 pm until 8:00 pm. From 8:00 pm until midnight, he will DJ an evening of traditional milonga – an Argentine and Uruguayan genre of music.
Next morning at 11:00 am, a selection of dancers will lead an hour-and-a-half-long workshop called, ‘Listening to your Partner’. At 1:00 pm they will present another workshop of the same length on ways to split the weight. From 3:00 pm until 4:30 pm will be a workshop discussing “Alternative."
From 4:30 pm until 6:00 pm, Mackenzie will DJ an alternative form of milonga. At 9:00 pm Chewy will DJ traditional milonga and live music will be presented by Cuarteto Rotterdam. Catherine and Craig, James and Lenore, and Chewy and Yulia will give live performances.
Sunday will begin with Sha Sha giving a workshop on follower technique. At 1:30 pm improvisation games will be discussed by Catherine and Craig. Chewy and Yulia will present phrasing, rhythm and musicality from 3:30 pm until 5:00 pm. Penny Johnson will DJ an afternoon milonga from 5:00 until 7:00 pm, and Ben & Winnie will provide live music.
