This year will mark the 25th anniversary for the Tour de Grandview, which will be coming mid-June.
Local, state, regional, national and international professional men and women cyclists will be competing for cash awards and prizes. Local amateur cycling clubs such as Paradise Club Racing, Lady Griar Shredders and Brioso Cycling traditionally support this event.
The course will take riders on a four-corners route starting at First Avenue. The route will then go left onto Willard Avenue, then Second Avenue, continue on Grandview and return to First Avenue which will complete the first lap. Although the course may sound mundane, it is full of steep inclines, sharp turns, and grueling terrain.
The Grandview Heights community holds yard parties, gatherings and family reunions on race day, and spectators are getting banner printing done so they can turn out in full support of their favorite riders. The official Street Party on Grandview Avenue will follow the races, showcase local bands and have plenty of food and drinks for purchase.
A Kids’ Sprint will have children in four age and gender categories racing their bikes. Each entrant will receive a participation ribbon and will be fitted for a new bike helmet. Winners of each age group will get a savings certificate.
Registration opens at 4:30 pm, pre-rides start at 5:00 pm, and races begin at 6:00 pm on Friday, June 15 on the corner of First Avenue and Avondale Avenue.
