A tribute to the greatest pop band of all time is planned for Cincinnati.
We Are The Walrus is a Beatles tribute band comprising Derek Johnson on drums, Justin Dawson on bass, pianist Ben Tweedt, John Kline on clarinet and tenor sax, and Spencer Mark on trombone. Beatles fans will know that the original group had only four members and played guitars, bass, and drums, and added keyboards on some of their recordings. Brass instruments were not featured.
The five musicians who comprise We Are The Walrus are some of the most promising artists now working in Cincinnati. Since they use brass, they are not trying to imitate a Beatles performance. Instead, they interpret the original works in their own way, leaving the tunes recognizable but giving them a new twist. In addition, their background is in jazz, making their approach to the Beatles’ music entirely new.
In addition, other tribute outfits often go so far as to wear identical clothing, and recreate the stage shows exactly, playing the same setlist, and using the same stage effects, a method We Are The Walrus has chosen to avoid.
We Are The Walrus will appear May 26 at the Caffè Vivace | Coffee House, Jazz Lounge on East McMillan Street. The band will play two sets, which are sold separately. Poster printing is an effective method for organizers of events like this to use to create advertising.
