Cheap Trick formed in 1973 in Rockford, Illinois, creating music with elements of the hard rock of the 1970s, 1960s guitar pop, and punk rock, which was just coming onto the scene. Their sound inspired the power pop groups who followed them including Guns ‘n Roses, Mötley Crüe, and Green Day.
Cheap Trick released their debut album, “Cheap Trick,” in 1977, and “In Color” later that same year, which was almost an instant success in Japan. Their live album, “At Budokan,” dropped in 1979 and was rated Triple Platinum. The group’s most successful album, “Dream Police,” came out in 1979. Although not as popular as they once were, Cheap Trick continues to draw fans. A review says:
“They ALWAYS electrify the crowd withe sheer power of their rock'n'roll. they are one of the best live acts just on that merit alone.”
The Band Feel is on the bill with Cheap Trick. The group is based in St. Louis, and is known for their sound, which adds a modern element to classic rock. They cite Laurel Canyon and mid-century jazz as influences, and though they are fairly new, they are getting attention. A review says:
“THE BAND FEEL provides a promising glimpse into the direction of emerging American rock.”
Cheap Trick and The Band Feel will appear at the Taft Theatre on November 19. Shows like this benefit when organizers work with poster printing to create suitable advertisements.
