For over a decade, the Cincinnati Shakespeare Company has been performing classic works of the Bard in parks in the city and throughout the area. It is continuing the tradition this summer, with the timeless tragedy ‘Romeo and Juliet’ and the comedy ‘The Merry Wives of Windsor’.
The CSC has created one of the nation’s largest programs of outdoor Shakespeare performances, both in the size of the area they visit, and the number of locations in which they perform. All performances are free to attend, there are no RSVPs or tickets required, and there is no special setting. Interested audience members can simply show up and enjoy Shakespeare under the stars.
Some of the venues include Washington Park in the Over-the-Rhine neighborhood and Eden Park in the Mt. Adams neighborhood. The tour is also going to northern Kentucky, and the City of Montgomery.
‘Romeo and Juliet’ tells the classic tragedy of two young lovers whose feuding families threaten their relationship, while ‘Merry Wives’ features the antics of John Falstaff, who is one of the most beloved characters Shakespeare ever created.
The season has been underway for several weeks, and will continue through September 4. When event planners want to make performances even more special, they can decorate the venues with colorful Banners and Posters that reflect the themes of the plays.
