Santa arrives in Cincinnati without his reindeer

In a break from tradition, Santa left Rudolph and company at the North Pole and arrived in Cincinnati by helicopter on November 27.

He and Mrs. Claus landed beside the Union Terminal fountain, at Cincinnati Museum Center. The center comprises a number of attractions, including the remodeled Union Terminal, the Cincinnati History Museum, the Museum of Natural History & Science, and the Duke Energy Children's Museum.

Once there, the festive couple lit the Christmas tree at the center, and then Santa went to the Holiday Junction, where he sat and listened to children tell him what they want for Christmas. Holiday Junction is part of the Duke Energy museum, and features a huge layout of model trains.

Many people participated in this holiday-season kickoff celebration, including characters from the Cincinnati Ballet, Playhouse in the Park, the Ensemble Theater Cincinnati, and the Children's Theater of Cincinnati. The performers entertained guests all morning.

The Holiday Junction is open through January 3. Customers of Duke Energy can receive vouchers to visit the attraction free of charge.

Event organizers might consider working with a banner printing company to hang above the museum doors, welcoming visitors to the trains, as well as to Santa. Banners are sturdy and can be used successfully outdoors. They can also be made colorful and whimsical to express the fun of the holiday season.
