Paddlefest set for Cincinnati splashdown

Later this month, the popular event known as Paddlefest will be held at Coney Island Park in Cincinnati.

The three-day, family-friendly event has been changed from a Thursday through Saturday festival to a Friday through Sunday event.

The fun kicks off on Friday, June 20, with the ‘9th annual Kids Outdoor Adventure Expo’, running from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm. The event, which is open to the public, is free and includes events like Zumbatomics, yoga, an obstacle course designed for children, and the Madcap Puppet show.

On Saturday, June 21, the fun starts at 10:00 am and goes all the way to midnight. The ‘Paddlefest Outdoor Expo’ lasts all day and features boat demonstrations on the lake, exhibits, raffles and fishing contests. The second major event is the ‘Roots on the River’ music festival, in which up-and-coming bands are slated to perform on the smaller stage from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm. After that, a ‘Roots on the River’ concert on the main stage runs from 8:00 pm to midnight.

Sunday, June 22, brings the ‘Paddle the Ohio’ event. Registration starts Sunday morning at 6:30 am, with races starting at 7:15 am and paddlers allowed on the river as of 8:15 am. The Coast Guard will close the river to power boats and commercial traffic, letting human-powered craft have the stretch from Coney Island to Cincinnati's downtown for the day.

Paddlefest organizers may need to create handouts for the event, and could work with a local flyer printing company to achieve this.
