Tab Benoit, a native of Louisiana, is a singer, songwriter, drummer, and guitarist known for his deft handling of the blues, in particular the Delta blues. The Delta blues is an early variant of the genre, first heard in the Mississippi Delta. This regional sound is characterized by the use of harmonica and guitar, particularly slide guitar.
Benoit has been playing the guitar since he was a teenager, appearing at the Blues Box in Baton Rouge. Tabby Thomas, a blues guitarist, ran the club, and Benoit learned to play the blues by sitting in with legends like Thomas, Henry Gray, and Raful Neal. In 1987, he founded a trio and started playing clubs in New Orleans as well as Baton Rouge. In 1989, he started expanding his tours to include more of the South, and in 1991, began touring nationally, which he continues to this day.

Benoit is also an environmental activist. He formed “Voice of the Wetlands” in 2003, an organization dedicated to preserving coastal wetlands.
