Chicago, once known as the Chicago Transit Authority, will be appearing soon at the PNC Pavilion at Riverbend. The band did indeed get its start in the Windy City in 1967, with the original outfit comprising local musicians Peter Cetera, Robert Lamm, Terry Kath, Lee Loughnane, James Pankow, Walter Parazaider, and Danny Seraphine.
Somewhat unusually for a rock band, what set Chicago apart is that three of the members were brass/wind instrument players; Parazaider played woodwinds, Pankow was a trombonist, and Loughnane played trumpet. The inclusion of these instruments to the usual line-up of guitar, bass, and drums led the band to describe themselves as:
“. . . a rock and roll band with horns.”
Chicago proved to be one of the most successful, and longest-running, bands ever, selling over 100 million records. Chicago also sold out a week’s run at Carnegie Hall, becoming the first rock band to do so. They have released 27 studio albums, 67 singles, 11 compilation albums, and 7 live albums. A review of Chicago in concert says:
“I was really impressed with this band and the fact they have been around for more than 4 decades. . .. They also just have such a great brass section . . .”
Chicago will be in Cincinnati on July 6. Organizers of concerts like this can work with poster printing to create great advertisements.
