One of the best-selling bands in the world will be playing in Cincinnati this coming fall.
Foreigner was founded in New York City in 1976 by Mick Jones, a British musician. The band became half-British and half-American, with Ed Gagliardi, Al Greenwood, Lou Gramm, Dennis Elliot, and Ian McDonald completing the original lineup. Since then, Foreigner has sold 80 million records throughout the world.
Atlantic Records picked up the group, and they spent a year working on “Foreigner,” their debut, which dropped in 1977 with songs like “Long, Long Way from Home” and “Cold as Ice.” “Foreigner” went Platinum 5x in the U.S, and made Platinum in Australia and Canada.
Their second album, “Double Vision,” was a 7x Platinum hit, debuting songs like “Juke Box Hero” and “Hot Blooded.” Foreigner’s sound even attracted Hollywood, with their music becoming featured in the films “Magic Mike” and “Anchorman 2.” Their single “Dirty White Boy” made its debut in the “Grand Theft Auto V” videogame.
In 2013, Gramm and Jones made it into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Jones said he wanted the group to:
“. . . combine Blues and R&B and make it sound soulful and authentic.”
