Kenny G (Kenneth Bruce Gorelick) is a native of Seattle who is renowned for his smooth jazz saxophone. He is also a record producer and composer, who has sold over 75 million records worldwide, making him a best-selling instrumentalist.
Kenny G began playing when he was ten. In high school, he was in the jazz band and took private lessons as well. He was 17 when he began his professional career, playing in Barry White’s The Love Unlimited Orchestra. He was also a member of Cold, Bold & Together, a Seattle funk band, and the Jeff Lorber Fusion.
Arista Records signed him in 1982 and his career as a soloist took off. His breakthrough came in 1986 with “Duotones,” his fourth album as a soloist, which contained “Songbird,” a hit single.
In 1992, he released “Breathless,” which was the best-selling instrumental album at the time, and was rated Diamond by the RIAA. His next album, 1994’s “Miracles: The Holiday Album,” made more than 13 million sales. He has continued recording and released his most recent album, “Innocence,” in 2023. A concert review says:
“There is nothing quite as soothing as a Kenny G performance. The delightful timbre of his saxophone is a luxury to the ears.”
Kenny G will be at the Taft Theatre on November 15. Appearances like this benefit when organizers use poster printing to promote them.
