The rock band Journey first got together in 1973 in San Francisco, founded by previous members of the Steve Miller Band, Frumious Bandersnatch, and Santana. The group was most commercially successful between 1978 and 1987, when Steve Perry was the band’s frontman. During this period, they had a series of hits, including 1981’s “Don’t Stop Believin,” which became one of iTunes’ best-selling tracks.
They released a total of 15 studio albums, seven of which were rated Platinum by the RIAA, and one, 1981’s “Escape,” which earned a Diamond rating. It was rated No. 1 on the U.S. charts, and No. 6 in Canada. Their follow-up effort, “Frontiers,” released in 1983, went to No. 2 and widened their popularity in the U.K. Their total album sales worldwide top 100 million. They have been just as successful with their singles. Nineteen made it into the Top 40 in the United States, and six were in the Top 10.
Journey started as a progressive rock band, but over time moved into a rock/pop sound that often characterizes groups identified as arena bands, such as Guns ‘N Roses and Def Leppard. A concert review says:
“Journey proved to Austin on Tuesday why its reputation has stood the test of time.”
Journey will be at the Heritage Bank Center in Cincinnati on June 13. Using poster printing, organizers of events like this can help support them by creating effective advertising.
