Although they were at the height of their fame in the 1970s and 1980s, Styx is still rocking the house.
They formed in 1972 in Chicago, and became known for mixing various instruments and elements, such as blending acoustic guitars and hard rock guitars, acoustic piano with synthesizers, power ballads and upbeat tunes, and even adding dashes from musical theater. During the 1970s, Styx offered a progressive rock sound, then added soft rock and pop in the 1980s.
Styx released their debut album, “Styx” on the Wooden Nickel Records label in 1972, but it wasn’t until “The Grand Illusion,” their seventh album, which dropped in 1977, that the band had their breakthrough. The song “Come Sail Away” climbed to No. 8 in 1978, and “Fooling Yourself (The Angry Young Man)” was also a hit that same year. The album earned Triple-Platinum certification from the RIAA.
Throughout their career, Styx has had numerous lineup changes and several breakups, with some members being replaced, particularly during the 1990s. They have sold approximately 20 million records worldwide and are best known for songs like “Come Sail Away,” “Lady,” and others. A concert review says:
“This concert sits on top of the very best. Amazing guitars, killer percussion, and the keyboard was astonishing.”
Styx will appear at the Riverbend Music Center in Cincinnati on August 6. Organizers often work with poster printing to create advertising for events like this.
