Irish dancers on tap in Cincinnati

Everyone, Irish or not, is invited to enjoy a night of music and dance with the Cincinnati Irish Cultural Society this month.

The organization will put on its 37th Irish Ceili to celebrate the culture and heritage of the nation. Ceili dances are generally based on ‘heys’, a word meaning ‘hedges’, which describes the configuration of the dancers, who are usually in lines facing each other. The dances resemble the ‘step dance’ made popular by shows like Riverdance.

McGing Irish Dancers, a group based in Blue Ash, will perform. McGing School of Irish Dance has offered dance programs to young people since 1977, and has won national championships a number of times. Joining them will be Dulahan, a Celtic band, as well as the Cincinnati Caledonian Pipes and Drums Band.

Tickets are $20 for adults and children when purchased in advance, and $25 at the door. Tables for as many as 10 people can be reserved for $250, with the opportunity to reserve VIP tables, which offer priority seating and mementos of the event, for $500.

The Ceili is slated for February 25 at Loveland's Oasis Conference Center, from 5.30 pm until 10:00 pm. All proceeds from the evening go to support the Cincinnati Feis, which is an Irish music and dance competition.

Events like these can benefit if organizers work with a postcard printing company, which can create cards for an area-wide mailing, announcing the evening's events.
