What's Happening in Cincinnati, OH…

Eclectic band to come to Cincinnati

A band that refuses to be pigeonholed is on the way to Cincinnati.

The Honey Island Swamp Band insist that great songs are really the foundation of all great music, and that genres and labels are less important. They bend song structures, stressing that the song rather than the genre is the important thing.

The band’s creation is a unique story. It began when Hurricane Katrina drove Aaron Wilkinson (vocals, mandolin, acoustic guitar) and Chris Mulé (vocals, electric guitar) from New Orleans to San Francisco. While there, they met two other musicians who had been forced from New Orleans – Garland Paul (vocals, drums) and Sam Price (vocals, bass). Since they knew it could be a long time before they got back to Louisiana, they decided they had better try something else.

They created a song list, and were appearing weekly at the Boom Boom Room in San Francisco, bringing New Orleans music to the West Coast. They recorded their seven-song debut in Sausalito, and it did so well they decided to concentrate on the new group on their return to the Crescent city. They went home in 2008, and have created a style called “Bayou Americana.”

A review says:

“Just awesome! They hit all the marks!”

The Honey Island Swamp Band will be at the Ludlow Garage on Wednesday, June 11. When they plan events like this, organizers frequently use poster printing to create advertising.
