Cincinnati warms up for 5K event
St. Vincent de Paul-Cincinnati is hosting an event to increase awareness of the problem of homelessness, and raise funds for its programs to help prevent homelessness. The Hope to Homes 5K walk/run allow community members to give back, and have fun with friends and family as they run in one of Cincinnati's riverfront parks.
St. Vincent's says that one in three people in Cincinnati do not have enough money to pay their rent, lack healthcare, or are going hungry. They add that for people who are struggling, one emergency may eat up their rent money, putting them at risk for losing their home. St. Paul's provides assistance to those who need help paying their utility bills or their rent, and staying off the streets.
The National Alliance to End Homelessness says it can cost thousands of dollars to support a homeless family and help it get reestablished. St. Vincent de Paul can help families avoid becoming homeless, at a cost of about $300-400, since preventing the problem in the first place is the most cost-effective and efficient method of dealing with homelessness.
The event will take place April 8 at Sawyer Point, beginning at 9:00 am. Each participant will be given a medal and a T-shirt. People can register online for $30 until April 7, and on race day, the fee is $35.
Events like this can benefit if organizers work with a banner printing company, which can create colorful banners to mark the course.
