R&B singer coming to Cincinnati

A soul/R&B singer who also wears the hats of author, songwriter, and talk show host is coming to Cincinnati.

Syleena Johnson is the daughter of Syl Johnson, a 1960s R&B singer for Hi Records and Brenda Thompson, who was Harvey, Illinois’s first female Black police commissioner. Like her father, Syleena sings R&B, and is known for her clear delivery, and sultry voice. She has been a favorite of her fans for almost 20 years.

Syleena has been inspired by women’s struggles, as well as their resilience. Leaning into these ideas, Syleena and Toxic Productions, a Grammy-winning production team, went into the studio and created WOMAN, a single from her album of the same name. WOMAN dropped in 2020 and is her 11th studio album.

In 2017, Syleena and her father worked together on “Rebirth of Soul,” the first time they have recorded together in more than 20 years. The album features Johnson’s personal take on R&B classics, mostly from the 1950s and 1960s. They were recorded with live musicians in “real time,” the way recording used to be done. The recording was done in Chicago which enabled the artists to take advantage of the talent of local musicians who have been playing R&B in the Windy City for years.

Syleena Johnson will be at Memorial Hall on November 3. Posters are often used to advertise events like these, and they can be obtained by event planners who may want to work with professional Print shops.
