Cincinnati Summerfair starts this week
Cincinnati residents can enjoy one of the best arts and crafts fairs in the area when Summerfair gets underway. According to a recent news item, there will
be over 300 craftspeople and fine artists in attendance at the annual festival, coming from all over the country. In addition, great food, live music, and a kids' area will make the event even more special.
Summerfair dates back to 1968, when a group of residents of the Mt. Adams area decided an arts festival would be a great way to celebrate the opening of a new theater—the Playhouse in the Park. That first festival was held on the streets; since then, it has moved several times and is now held at the Coney Island Amusement Park.
The fair brings more than 20,000 patrons who view and buy the works of various artists. Disciplines represented cross over twelve categories including painting, wood, sculpture, ceramics, glass, photography, drawing/printmaking, metal, fibers, jewelry, leather, and 2D/3D mixed media.
Summerfair is open June 3 from 2 to 8 pm; June 4 from 10 am to 8 pm; and June 5 from 10 am to 5 pm. Admission for adults is $10, and children under 12 are free.
Open-air events can be enhanced if organizers work with printing companies to create festive, colorful banners. Such flags move in the breeze and add to the fun of the day.
