Legendary balladeers to appear in Cincinnati

A group that has been harmonizing since 1961 is coming to Cincinnati next month.

Rob Gulak, Bobby Poynton, and Donovan Tea are The Lettermen, a group that has existed in various configurations for decades. The group has built its reputation on rich harmonic style.

The Lettermen’s signature sound was almost an accident. They were (and still are) with Capitol Records, and the company put out a single with a doo-wop number, “That’s My Desire,” on the A side of the record, and a “lesser” song, a ballad, on the B-side. The song was nothing like the rock music that was mainstream.

The B-side was “The Way You Look Tonight” and proved to be a massive hit, skyrocketing to No. 13 on the Billboard chart. Their next effort, the ballad “When I Fall in Love,” climbed to No. 7, and the band was established as one of pop’s leading groups.

The list of the band’s hits includes familiar titles like “Put Your Head on My Shoulder,” and “Goin’ Out of My Head/Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You.” They have released more than 100 albums, compilations, and singles, and have toured successfully throughout the world.

A review says:

“The Lettermen concert I attended was amazing! The music was as great as I remember . . .”

The Lettermen will be at The Ludlow Garage on Sunday, June 4, where organizers can use poster printing to create advertising for an event like this.
