An alt-rock band with a Grammy and two platinum albums is coming to Cincinnati, and bringing a friend with them.
Soul Asylum is set to appear at the Ludlow Garage, along with Corey Clover, who will open the show. Soul Asylum formed in Minneapolis in 1981, where they were considered the feisty punk alternatives to bands like Hüsker Dü and The Replacements before they broke into the mainstream.
In 1992, they released their “Grave Dancers Union” album, which contained the tracks “Somebody to Shove,” “Black Gold,” and the Grammy winning song “Runaway Train.” The accompanying video helped reunite almost two dozen families and children.
The band has released 13 albums, dropping the most recent “Slowly but Shirley” in 2024, and has continued to refine their sound while keeping the emotional directness that characterizes their body of work. They appeared on MTV Unplugged in 1993, a performance that was released on vinyl recently, and in 2025, “Let Your Dim Light Shine” was rereleased.
Corey Clover, who is a singer/songwriter based in Nashville, opens the evening. He has gained a reputation for blending soul, rock, and Americana in the roots-driven songs he writes. As a vocalist, he is noted for compelling live performances grounded in reality.
The show is scheduled for April 9. When they book artists like this, organizers can support the performance by using poster printing to create advertisements for them.
