Centerville schools will have a new superintendent soon when the current official retires.
John Wesney, who holds the position of Director of Business Operations for Centerville School, has been chosen to take over the position upon the retirement of Superintendent Tom Henderson, who has been in education for over 40 years, and has been the superintendent in Centerville for the past 13 years.
In his current position, Wesney oversees the operation of the food service, transportation, and maintenance departments. He is also responsible for the permanent improvement fund, and oversees purchasing issues districtwide.
In his new position, Wesney will be the leader of approximately 8,200 students and about 1,100 full-time employees. The district has also developed a new strategic plan, which he will help implement. The plan focuses on five areas: Supporting and Resourcing, Understanding and Communicating, Including and Diversifying, Innovating and Leading, and Learning and Teaching. When personnel join an organization, it can provide official Business Cards reflecting the new position.
Wesney began his career in education in 1997 in the Industrial Technology Department of Centerville High School. He went on to serve for seven years as the Career Technical Principal, and then an additional five years as the CHS Coordinating Principal. Wesney obtained his bachelor’s degree from Morehead State University in industrial technology education, and his master’s in educational leadership from the University of Dayton.
Wesney’s appointment will be effective August 1, when he is officially named to the post by the Centerville Board of Education.
