Young naturalists are invited to help a professional with an enjoyable task.
Children eight years of age and older have a chance to join a naturalist conducting a Butterfly Survey. The scientist will lead participants on a stroll in Grant Park, where they will observe seasonal wildlife, identify butterflies, and count them. There is no experience required to take part, but the trail is uneven, and about one mile long.
The Butterfly Survey is part of the Tools to Trek program. Participants should Print out a Tools to Trek program brochure and attach a stamp from the event. Those who fill out a brochure with Stamps will receive a prize.
Space at this popular event is limited, so anyone who registers and then realizes they cannot attend should notify the Park District, who can make the spot available to others.
Guides and nets will be provided, and everyone is reminded to apply insect and sun protection, and dress appropriate for all weather conditions.
Only one family member needs to register, and those who are registering for the first time should write “Dayton” as their city when they create an account. The system does not recognize either “Washington Township” or “Centerville.”
The Butterfly Survey is scheduled for August 1, from 10.00 am until 11.30 am, and July 30 is the registration deadline. If there is inclement weather, the event will be canceled. Events like this benefit when organizers use poster printing to create advertisements about them.
