What's Happening in Centerville, OH…

Centerville hosts athletic event for non-experts

Centerville is hosting an upcoming event for athletes who are emphatically not at the top of their game.

Festivus Games is limited to those of Novice and Intermediate status only; people who finish in the top 10% of their competition or the top 5% of their age group, or who compete in the Elite or RX divisions in other competitions should sit this one out. Organizers warn that if someone ineligible signs up and are later discovered, they will be disqualified without receiving a refund.

Sinc 2011, Festivus Games have been held to give “the rest of us” a chance to compete. The games are based on the idea that more than 90% of athletes are not at the top level. They are not breaking records, but they should still be able to enjoy friendly competition. Organizers also point out that competition is more about capacity than skill, noting that everyone can row, and everyone can lift weights. The question is how fast can they row and how much can they lift?

About 70 athletes took part in the first Festivus Games, but now over 17,000 people take part annually. Anyone who chooses to take part should expect some challenges but should also look forward to a lot of fun.

The local Festivus Games will be held April 26, from 7.00 am until 5.00 pm, at the Centerville CrossFit, located at 923 Senate Drive. Events like this are often advertised with posters, which hosts can find at print shops.
