Celebration of Germany scheduled for summer

The 37th Germanfest Picnic is scheduled for late summer and will take place a few miles from Centerville in neighboring Dayton, at the Riverscape Metro Park.

Bringing German history to the festival along with traditional food and drink, the heritage and culture of the European nation can be experienced throughout the event. A craft beer trailer will be in addition to the Bier and Wine Gartens this year. Schnitzel, brats, metts (minced pork) and other authentic German favorites will be available.

Craft vendors have a wide array of products, including German imports, gifts, handmade items, and fashions. Banner printing is a project associated with planning for a vendor booth. Local printing services can assist with any type of Print projects.

On Friday, the opening ceremony will start with Keg Tapping. On Sunday a Polka Mass will be held. Other activities include a 5K and 10K Run and Walk, a Bavarian Fashion Show, and Dachshund Races. Live music will be onsite during the weekend festivities. The Kidz Zone will offer several fun games and activities for the younger crowd.

The Germanfest Picnic starts at 5:00 pm on Friday, August 14 and will run through Sunday, August 16, closing at 6:00 pm. The Riverscape Metro Park is located at 111 E. Monument Avenue. Admission to this family-friendly festival is free. More information can be found via the event website.
