Winter road rally planned for Smithtown area

The Metro New York Porsche Club of America will be hosting the 65th Ted Ohland Snowflake Road Rally in Hauppauge in January 2021, which may be of interest to Smithtown racing enthusiasts.

The Metro New York Porsche Club was originally founded in 1952 as The New York Porsche Club, three years before The Porsche Club of America (PCA) was founded. It officially joined the PCA in 1958 as the Metro New York Region of PCA. The Metro offers its members many diverse activities, such as road rallies, autocross, club racing, social gatherings, and driver education.

The annual Snowflake Road Rally is a TSD rally, which stands for “time speed distance.” Participants will be given instructions from start to finish. Drivers are given certain speeds to maintain and locations to execute those speeds and timed accordingly. The rally is open to every skill level, from beginner to expert. There will be a rally class two weeks prior to the event for novices that are interested.

The road rally is slated for Sunday, January 31, from 9:00am to 2:00pm. Breakfast and registration will be at the Hauppauge Palace Diner at 9:00am, and the race begins at 10:01am. Registration is $30 per car and can be purchased at Eventbrite.com. Racing events such as this often utilize businesses specializing in banner printing to promote and decorate the racetrack.
