The Smithtown Cemetery Association will present Adopt-A-Wreath: Honor the Past, Preserve Our History next month to help the association’s efforts in preserving the historic parts of the Smithtown Cemetery.
The event will invite the community to adopt a wreath for a historic gravestone within the Smithtown Cemetery. Purchasing a holiday wreath will benefit the Smithtown Cemetery Association’s restoration efforts to repair and revitalize the historic section of the cemetery. These efforts include resetting historic markers and cleaning and restoring gravestones, thereby preserving and respecting the legacy of some of Smithtown’s oldest residents, which include veterans and local pioneers.
People will be able to purchase and adopt a handcrafted holiday wreath with a vibrant red bow and personally place it in the cemetery during the event. Participants are also welcome to adopt a wreath for their own loved one’s gravestone and include a personalized message on it instead of placing a wreath in the historic section.
Local Print shops can aid organizers needing to advertise community events such as this by offering flyer printing or similar services to spread word of the event.
The Adopt-A-Wreath event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, December 6 from 8:30 am to 12:00 noon. The Smithtown Cemetery is located at North Country Road. Wreaths can be purchased for $39.99, plus processing fees.
