Next month, the NYS Parks Long Island Environmental Education will present the Moths Under the Moonlight program, which will teach attendees from Smithtown and surrounding areas about moths and other nighttime insects.
The NYS Parks Long Island Environmental Education hosts a variety of nature and outdoor-based activities for students, families, and adults in many different locations across Long Island. The Moths Under the Moonlight event will be held at Sunken Meadow State Park in Smithtown. The park features a nature center, golf course, three miles of beaches, six miles of hiking trails, and other recreational activities.
The moth event will be led by an outdoor educator, who will teach attendees how to identify the noises they hear at night. Once the sun sets, moths take to the skies, and attendees can walk through the forests of Sunken Meadow observing them. They will also learn how to set up a moth sheet that will help attract moths to them. Refreshments will be provided throughout the night.
Nature program events may benefit from having informative Brochures that attendees can refer to during the activity. Organizers may team up with their local Print shops offering brochure printing services to print these in bulk.
The Moths Under the Moonlight is scheduled for August 22 from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm. It will be held at Sunken Meadow State Park Lot 1 in Smithtown, located at New York State Reference Route 908K.
