Smithtown guided walk to educate on river ecology

Blydenburgh County Park in Smithtown will hold the Guided Walk: Let the River Run event for anyone interested in learning more about plans to restore the Nissequogue River and how such efforts can improve the health of the surrounding environment.

This guided walk will be related to this past January’s webinar with Enrico Nardone, who is the executive director of the Seatuck Environmental Association. In his webinar, Enrico discusses how the failing of Stump Pond Dam in 2024 has led to a unique opportunity for Suffolk County to restore the Nissequogue River to its former state. The guided walk will illustrate how integral to the surrounding ecology the native revegetation around the river in Blydenburgh County Park is.

During the walk, Enrico will discuss how not rebuilding the dam and instead letting the river flow might have positive effects for the entire community. It is expected to create a more resilient and healthier ecosystem, improve habitat conditions, enrich public recreation, and even save money for taxpayers in the long-term.

Nature-related events like this one are often advertised on Flyers that can be printed in a cost-effective manner by utilizing flyer printing services at local Print shops.

The guided walk is scheduled to take place on Saturday, April 11 from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon. Blydenburgh County Park is located at Veteran's Memorial Highway, Smithtown.
