Trio of races supports research

Locals in Stony Brook, and nearby Smithtown, can take part in three athletic events that support research at Stony Brook Medicine.

First, individuals can participate in the ‘4K Color Splash’ where participants will get covered with powdered paint along the way. Registration costs $30 or $40 on race day. There will also be a 4K and 6K ‘Walk for Beauty’. Registration costs $25 or $35 on event day.

Those who want more of a challenge can participate in the ‘Hercules on the Harbor 10K’. The timed race features a scenic, certified course with both paved and off-road terrain. The course has several hills and goes through residential areas, along with many important landmarks such as the Avalon Park and Preserve. Along the way, there will be live music to inspire runners. Awards will be distributed to the top three male and female finishers overall, and in each age group.

Registration for the Hercules 10K costs $35. Those who pre-register are guaranteed a long-sleeved event T-shirt. Race day registration costs $45.

All three races will take place on October 25. The events will begin at the Stony Brook Village Center, located on 111 Main Street. Printing services have probably been busy creating promotional materials for the event.

The 10K kicks off at 9:15 am followed by the 4K and 6K 'Walk for Beauty' at 9:30 am, and the '4K Color Splash' at 9:35 am
