Smithtowns luxury rentals create building boom

Growth and development are coming to Smithtown, and the most likely candidates are 71 privately-funded, vacant rentals.

The new rental apartments even have retail space built underneath to attract small businesses like fast-food chains and convenience stores. At the same time, downtown is struggling financially, so Long Island communities are introducing a new smart growth plan to bring back the vibrant nightlife they once had.

By filling up those empty storefronts and renting out the top floors, the Long Island community hopes to attract more millennials, who are known for window shopping and indulging in the cultured arts, movies, bars, hair salons, restaurants, and more. Aside from the north shore’s transit development near the Long Island Railroad, building all these houses could help the town generate additional tax revenue for improving public infrastructure.

Having a town center is one way to revitalize Smithtown, giving businesses an opportunity to host their own events and activities during the holidays, which will pull in huge crowds, eager to get their hands on a free sample or a limited-edition item. Music and other festivities would give a boost to the town’s popularity as a hangout area for millennials.

Although big-box stores selling products are unlikely to return, the new development in favor of affordable housing is still being approved and will be ready in less than two years. Local Print shops can provide printed designs for arts and crafts stores in town.
