Smithtown will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with a run titled Go for the Green. This run is a 5k or one mile run and has been held every year for 25 years already.
The run will start at Smithtown Elementary School, on Lawrence Ave. The first 400 people to register will receive a free t-shirt for the race. There will be various prizes for the races: the top three overall men and women will receive trophies, and then the top three females and males in different age categories will also receive medals.
After the race, participants are encouraged to stay and enjoy refreshments, including baked goods, and try their luck with the raffle. Although particulars of the raffle prizes are not available at this time, race coordinators claim their raffle prizes are “legendary”.
Participation fees are less expensive during pre-registration: the 5k is $25 (as opposed to $30 on the day), and the one mile is $15 per individual or $50 per family. Day-of prices are $18 per individual and $55 for a family. Packets can be picked up the two days before the race between noon and 6 pm at Smithtown Running Company on Main St., or packets can be picked up day of at Smithtown Elementary starting at 8 am.
Events like this often use banner printing to help advertise and make the community aware of these events. The race is set to start at 9:30 am, rain or shine, on Saturday, March 16.
