Residents run to raise awareness

Locals in Centereach, and nearby Smithtown, can take part in a run or walk for a good cause.

The 3rd Annual Andrea Timmons Memorial Sarcoidosis of Long Island Awareness 5K Fun Run, or 1 mile walk, will help

raise awareness for sarcoidosis, an inflammatory disease that affects internal organs.

The 5K will take participants in a loop around Centereach. After the race, there will raffles and more fun. Participants aged 21 and up will get a free beer.

To help promote the race, a Print company was probably asked to create a flyer that includes important information such as the race’s time and place.

All participants will get a finisher’s medal. Trophies will also be given to the top male and female participants. In addition, awards will be given to the top male and females in the wheelchair group and each age bracket.

Until August 28, registration costs $25 for adults or $15 for youth, aged 17 and under. Those who register during this period will be guaranteed a race shirt. Race day registration is $30. Kids aged 5 and under run for free. Registration for the walk costs $5 before August 28 or $10 on race day.

The race will kick off on August 29 at 9:00 am. Race day registration begins at 8:00 am.

The race begins at McCarthy’s Pub, located on 2582 Middle Country Road.
