New teachers join Smithtown students back in class

The 2016-2017 school year has started for Smithtown Central School District, but not before the district’s new teachers attended orientation.

Students returning to class on September 6 encountered many familiar faces and some new ones as well. Among the principals and teachers on hand to greet students at the district’s various schools were 50 new members of staff.

The new recruits were given the chance to become familiar with their positions from August 29 through 31 during a new teacher orientation. Much of this took place at the district’s central administration building on New York Avenue.

Orientation began with a breakfast sponsored by the Smithtown Teachers’ Association. The breakfast provided a chance for the new staff to become acquainted with the district and building administrators, in addition to the individual departmental directors.

Events such as this provide an excellent networking opportunity for those who are foresighted enough to supply themselves with digitized Business Cards.

The newly hired members of the district were also given a chance to tour their respective buildings and see their classrooms before the new school year began.

By receiving help from the district in making the transition to their new jobs, it is anticipated that the new teachers will be better able to help their students make the transition to the new school year.
