Golfers take to the green for cancer

Locals in and around Smithtown recently enjoyed a day of golfing and festivities while supporting a good cause.

The third Michael Magro Foundation Golf Classic took place this year at The Hamlet Golf and Country Club. The event was set up to benefit the Michael Magro Foundation, a non-profit organization that helps families with children who have cancer or other serious illnesses.

Prior to the tournament, participants enjoyed breakfast from the omelet station and also participated in a putting green contest. Then, golfers were set to take part in a shotgun start in the golf classic.

After the golfing competition, guests could enjoy a cocktail hour, a buffet dinner, and an awards ceremony.

Registration was $300 for an individual player and included golf gloves. A golfing foursome, and recognition on a tee sign, cost $1,200. Those who wanted to enjoy dinner and cocktail hour could expect to pay $125.

Sponsorship opportunities were also available for between $150 and $2,500. It’s likely that the event organizers used a banner printing service to make large Signs that include sponsors’ logos.

The event was scheduled to tee off on June 29th, with registration, breakfast, and the putting green contest going on from 9:00am until 11:00am. The golf classic would then begin at 11:00am, followed by cocktail hour at 4:00pm and the dinner at 5:00pm. The Hamlet Golf and Country Club is located on 1 Clubhouse Drive.
