Foundation delivers take-home meals to Smithtown area hospitals

The Gino Macchio Foundation is transporting 500 packaged meals to hospitals in and around Smithtown to combat the spread of coronavirus.

The organization has delivered take-home meals to three hospitals in Suffolk County. The food is being brought to frontline healthcare workers at Smithtown’s St. Catherine’s Hospital, as well as St. Charles Hospital (Port Jefferson) and the Good Samaritan Hospital (West Islip). These long-lasting meals can be microwaved and taken home to ease the burden on medical professionals when they return home after their shift.

According to the director of The Gino Macchio Foundation, Ken Daly, the hospitals were grateful for all the help they received. Edward Wehrheim, the town supervisor of Smithtown, agreed and stated in a news release:

“We knew exactly where to send them to do the most good.”

The take-home meals distributed to St Catherine’s medical professionals will do more than feeding the frontline workers; they will create a sense of solidarity in the community of Smithtown, as people are grateful for the foundation’s services.

The Gino Macchio Foundation was established in Long Island to commemorate Gino Macchio, who made it his mission to invent a more sustainable method of oyster farming using advanced technology. As such, he coined the catchphrase “I Got You” any time people asked for his support.

This is an ongoing effort and will continue for the next few months. Graphic design can be used to send a “thank you” card on a care package to essential workers who need it.
