Curvy Girls Scoliosis Support will be holding its second biannual convention at the Hyatt Regency Long Island, later this month.
The organization was originally founded by Leah Stolz, who was then a 13-year-old resident of Smithtown, New York. She expects to bring together more than 200 girls and families from 30 states and three different countries. The event will likely be advertised by poster printing, as well as other methods.
Curvy Girls engages girls and families affected by scoliosis in support and advocacy.
Stolz said that she never wants anyone to feel “alone and scared” as she did, and explained that she is committed to empowering girls with the condition all over the world so that they know they are not alone.
At 21, Stolz is now graduating with a degree in marketing and business from American University. Her own scoliosis was corrected by surgery six years ago.
She took her group global after being featured on the TeenNick HALO (Helping And Leading Others) Awards in 2009. The show brings together celebrities and teens who work to give back within their communities while overcoming hardship. Stolz was honored by actor and singer Justin Timberlake.
The goal of the convention – set for from June 29th – July 1st – is to give Curvy Girls the chance to celebrate the accomplishments and leadership of girls throughout the world, while providing both youngsters and their families with emerging information regarding scoliosis.
