Car company to open new location in Smithtown

Automotive company Tesla is looking to open a new service facility and showroom in Nesconset, Smithtown at the site of the former 6th Avenue Electronics Store on 1000 Nesconset Highway.

To allow the dealership open at this location, the Smithtown Planning Board will submit a recommendation to change the area’s zoning category from ‘neighborhood business & central business’ to ‘wholesale industry’. This would permit the storage and display of outdoor vehicles at the location. The planning board has scheduled February 22 as the date for review of the car company’s application.

Before Tesla can make its move, it must wait for the new legislation to come through, since it has reached the state-mandated cap of five sales facilities in New York. The legislation will increase the state-mandated cap to 15 or 20 locations.

The Brooklyn-based property developer, Tim Ziss, will be in charge of renovating the former 6th Avenue Electronics store and rent it out to Tesla. The developer could make use of printing and Logo Design services when renovating the new location.

Vincent J. Trimarco, the lawyer representing the property developer says:

“The move would have no adverse effect on neighbors. Tesla’s electric cars don’t make noise, that I know of anyway. Nor do they use oil. Environmental issues are really cut down to a minimum.”
