Table tennis players to square off in Port Washington

The Gold Coast Table Tennis Open will be held in Port Washington this January, bringing together competitive players of all levels.

The tournament is officially sanctioned by USA Table Tennis, with five different categories available for players based on their official ranking. There will also be separate tournaments for players under the age of 11 or over the age of 45. Table tennis, also known as ping-pong, relies on fast reflexes to respond to rapid serves and volleys, making it a popular recreational activity. The tournament is the flagship event of the Gold Coast Table Tennis Club, which provides training led by internationally recognized coaches and a weekly Friday night league. Advertising material also emphasizes the club’s professional facilities, which the tournament will be held in:

“The 3500 square feet, air-conditioned facility, featuring 14 feet high ceilings and Olympic level G-floors, will meet your needs whether you are playing for fun or training for competition.”

The winners of each bracket will receive USATT ranking points as well as bragging rights in Port Washington and beyond. Local sporting events like this often use methods like banner printing and plaques to help recognize the winners of previous editions as well as celebrate the current event.

The Gold Coast Table Tennis Open will take place on January 12 at the Gold Coast Table Tennis Club in Port Washington.
