Port Washington goes kayaking

The city of Port Washington is teaming with North Hempstead and Atlantic Outfitters to put together the 12th Annual Manhasset Bay Kayak Run.

The event promises some cool fun on the water for families looking to beat the heat this summer.

The run centers on a five-mile course that has been set up around Manhasset Bay. Atlantic Outfitters is offering discounted kayak rentals for those without one, but participants are not restricted only to kayaks. They can complete the course in paddleboats or canoes as well.

Everyone can make the run at their own pace, checking in at locations marked with brightly colored Banners spaced regularly along the bay. The race comes to a finish at the Town Dock, where a raffle will be held. Among the many prizes available is a brand new kayak.

All proceeds go to benefit the Community Chest, a town-run charity that helps Port Washington residents in need. As such, all entry fees are tax deductible.

The event will be held this Saturday, July 23, starting at 10:00 am. The raffle will be held at 12:30 pm at the Port Washington Town Dock. Registration must be completed in advance and costs $25 for adults and $5 for entrants 21 and under. Anyone looking for more information should contact the Community Chest or visit the city website.
