Long Island to host holiday weightlifting competition

The 2020 Nick Curry Memorial and Holiday Open for men’s and women’s weightlifting will take place in nearby Albertson for any Port Washington strongmen or strongwomen interested in competing.

The weightlifting competition will be conducted and sanctioned by the Metropolitan Local Weightlifting Committee of the U.S.A. Weightlifting Federation. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the event will be divided into two locations about 15 minutes apart. The athlete weigh-in location will be at 111 Division Avenue, Levittown, while the actual competition will happen at 53 Albertson Avenue, Albertson.

Men’s weigh-ins will begin at 8:00 am, and women’s weigh-ins will be at 1:00 pm. Lifting sessions will consist of six lifters in each session. Lifters and sessions will be confirmed on the Wednesday before the competition. Late entry is allowed depending on the number of participants, so attendees should watch their email starting December 9 for any changes to weigh-in times. Men’s lifting sessions will begin at 10:00 pm, and women’s sessions will be at 3:00 pm.

Awards will be given for the first three places in each men’s and women’s weight class. Team awards will also be given for men and women combined.

The competition is slated for Sunday, December 13. The entry fee is $65.61 on Eventbrite. Such events often turn to businesses specializing in flyer printing to spread awareness of event specifics.
