Poetry workshop series to launch in Mamaroneck

The Mamaroneck Library will be launching a new series of poetry workshops this January, aiming to help participants use poetry as a form of reflection and expression.

The workshops will be led by Elizabeth O’Rourke, a published poet and Sarah Lawrence MFA graduate whose work focuses on the mysticism of daily life. The course will consist of three monthly sessions where poets can develop their skills and get feedback on their work. The sessions will culminate in an outdoor showcase in the library’s Poetry Garden, weather permitting, in June. Promotional material for the event emphasizes the self-reflective nature of the classes, which are titled “Poetry as a Mirror: Reflection and Refraction”:

“Poetry can help us see ourselves and others more clearly, creating more intimate connections.”

Participants will be able to register for as many of the 3 sessions as they’d like through an online portal. The courses are part of the Mamaroneck Library’s efforts to provide adult education and opportunities for creative expression, which also include book clubs, gardening lessons, and more. Libraries often use methods like poster printing or social media posts to help advertise these programs.

“Poetry as a Mirror: Reflection and Refraction” will hold its first class on the afternoon of January 10, with follow-up classes taking place on February 26 and April 25. All classes will take place in the Community Room of the Mamaroneck Library.
